You are invited to take part in this study.  Please read this Explanatory Statement in full before deciding whether or not to participate. If you would like further information regarding any aspect of this project, you are encouraged to contact the researcher/s via the phone number or email address listed above.

What does the research involve?
Through your responses to the online survey questions, we intend to learn about:
1. Your aspirations, as parents, for your children’s community languages education;
2. Your views on the resources available at community languages schools and how they contribute to your children's successful/lack of language learning;
3. Challenges that you, as a parent, are currently facing for the continued attendance of your children in community languages school.
We invite you to complete our survey, which will take up to 15 minutes. Your participation is completely voluntary and your responses to the questions will remain anonymous.

Why were you chosen for this research?
You are invited to participate because you are a parent who has at least one child enrolled in a community languages school in Australia.

Source of funding
This study is funded by a grant from Community Languages Australia (CLA). We will share a final report of the study with CLA.

Consenting to participate in the project and withdrawing from the research
Submitting the online survey implies your consent to take part. You have the right to withdraw from participating in this study once you start answering the survey questions, and you can withdraw at any point until you submit your answers. As the survey will not identify you, we will not be able to withdraw your answers after you submit your completed survey.

Possible benefits and risks to participants
We hope that your answers to our survey will inform and support community language teaching and learning in Australia. Your responses to the survey questions will become an important part of future discussions and planning.
There are no reasonably foreseeable risks to participating in this study beyond the level of inconvenience to fill in an anonymous online survey.

Confidentiality
All data is anonymous and it would not be possible to connect information with any individual person or school.

Storage of data
All electronic data will be securely stored on the researchers’ password protected computers and data storage network. Data will be kept securely for five years and then destroyed if it is no longer required.

Use of data for other purposes
Aggregate de-identified data may be used for other projects where ethics approval has been granted.

Results
Research findings will be shared in a report to CLA, professional magazines, academic peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and/or conference presentations.
